When I post finished art from my little artists I wish I had enough characters or appropriate hashtags to explain the magic that happens in an art lesson. Take for instance my Preschool Art Studio class. These kids are 3 and just barely 4 years old. This particular artist had never drawn a rectangle, triangle or circle intentionally. So we talked about the shapes, we made dots for the corners and then connected the dots to create the shapes. We combined our new knowledge of shapes to draw a cat out of those same basic shapes. The kids beam with pride! I do too! It is powerful to watch the connections happen. When we went to paint our drawings my little artist wanted a pink kitty. I gave her a dark magenta and she politely asked if she could have some white. She wanted to make a light pink kitty. PROUD TEACHER MOMENT! (We worked on color mixing in previous classes!) I often use the hashtag #bestjobever. It's because I really do have the BEST. JOB! EVER!

Doing art with your toddler/preschooler can be tricky. Especially if you care about your floors or clean surfaces. In the 'You and Me" art class I develop projects specifically to include the little artist and their adult. You get to create one-on-one with your child, make a mess (yes, even with glitter on occasion) and I do all the clean up. It's a perfect combination. We spend a lot of time doing seasonal crafts and painting in this class. This class fills up quick so be sure to reserve your space. "You and Me" is held on Monday mornings at my park studio. 9:45am-10:30am. Contact the Renton Community Center to register. (425) 430-6700
Pinch me! I get to work with kids and crafts FOR A LIVING! It's a dream come true, really! My Preschool Art Studio class has been a real hit. In this class my fellow artists and I explore a variety of mediums and we aren't afraid of much. This particular class has drawn a very talented crew and they are always ready to jump into the project for the week. We have worked with acrylic, clay, oil pastel and more all while thinking about composition (fancy word for where we put things) and texture (another fancy art term for adding a pattern or print). This class meets on Tuesday mornings from 9:45am-10:30am at my park studio in Renton WA. Contact the Renton Community Center to register. (425)430-6700
